On arrival Yangon airport, our guide will meet you at the exit gate, and he and the driver will assist you with your luggage before heading to the city. Our journey begins where faded colonial buildings stand next to glittering temples and a short walk turns into an eye-opening discovery of the country’s history and diverse cultures. Our first stop is the Ngahtatgyi Buddha Temple, where a distinct five-tiered pagoda houses the original 20.5 feet high Buddha image which was donated by Prince Minyedeippa in 1558, next is Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda, the the sheer size and presence of the Chaukhautree’s 230ft (70m) long reclining Buddha is breathtaking.
Following this you will enjoy a stroll in Kandawgyi Park, where also known as Royal Lake, is a beautiful artificial lake built by the British as a reservoir. Onwards to lunch at a local restaurant to enjoy some typical Myanmar food. After this we will head towards Sule pagoda the geographical and commercial heart of the city, around this area you can also enjoy the colonial architecture of City Hall and the Independence Monument. Then we visit the unforgettable Shwedagon Pagoda the most revered Buddhist temple in Myanmar to view the sunset, after which you will return to your hotel to reflect on your fascinating journey. Overnight at hotel.
After breakfast transfer to the airport for our domestic flight to Bagan the most extensive archaeological site in Asia, where you will spend the day exploring a diverse selection of the most important pagodas and temples. Our first visit Shwezigon Pagoda, the graceful bell shape of this pagoda became a prototype for virtually all later pagodas all over Myanmar. We will enjoy our lunch in a local restaurant. Then visit Gu Byauk Gyi Temple, the 13th-century ‘cave temple’ in Indian style. Ananda Patho: one of the finest, best preserved and most revered of the Bagan temples. After lunch we will enjoy Manuha Temple: It was built in 1059 by King Manuha, the King of Thaton, who was brought captive to Bagan by King Anawrahta. In the late afternoon, enjoy a horse carriage ride passing temples and watch the sunset from the upper terrace of one of the pagodas. Overnight at hotel.
We will start our day visiting the local market of Nyaung Oo where vendors offer a variety of fresh farm produce and a range of uniquely local items. After, we will head towards Myinkaba Village. Here, the techniques used for many generations remain in the present with the painstaking process of lacquer ware making and decoration. Close to the village we visit another two remarkable temples in the history of Bagan. Sulamani Pahto: its brickwork throughout is considered some of the best in Bagan and Dhammayangyi Pahto: it is said that king Narathu built the temple to redeem his sins: he smothered his father and brother to dead and executed one of his wife’s (for practicing Hindu rituals). After having lunch in a local restaurant, we will visit Minnanthu village, where we will learn about local people daily activities and customs. We will end up the day enjoying a boat outing in the Ayeyarwaddy River. Overnight at hotel.
We will start our day by taking a transfer to Mount Popa, this mount is situated 45km away from Bagan and is regarded as the birthplace of “Nats” (the animal spirits of Myanmar). You will be picked up at your hotel at 9am, and taken by car to this extinct volcano, approximately a 1.5hr drive away. The surrounding areas are arid, but the Mt Popa area has over 200 springs and streams and is therefore likened to an oasis in the desert-like dry central zone of Burma. Burmese superstition says that on Mt Popa, one should not wear red or black or green or bring meat, especially pork, as it could offend the resident nats. You have been warned! Once you arrive at the volcano you can begin the ascent, which takes 777 steps, don’t worry the steps are not that steep and the walk up takes about 1 ½ hours! Along the ascent you will pass by multiple shrines, and ‘Nat’ holy sites, and learn about the curious legends which surround the mountain. At the top you will find Mount Popa Monastery, which offers incredible 360-degree views of the surrounding plains. Don’t forget your camera for this fabulous photographic opportunity. Once you have descended, you will begin your journey back to Bagan, enjoy the rural views, during which you stop at a local teashop for traditional lunch, before being dropped at the airport to take a domestic flight to Yangon. On arrival transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
After Breakfast at hotel, free of leisure morning time. Afternoon check out from hotel and we will transfer to the airport for flight to your home.
